After a few years, everyone starts to get the urge to change their home’s appearance. It’s natural; after all, you update your look, why can’t you update your house? Nowadays, there are so many different styles and materials for siding that you’re spoiled for choice. Anything from vinyl siding to stucco is available, and all with their own benefits. However, when doing research on them, consider several questions before making a definite choice.
First, consider yourself and your personal goals with this change. Your desired look is one thing, but what about how you’ll feel about the look in a few years? How much are you willing to spend? How much time are you willing to devote to maintenance? These seem like silly questions, however, it could be the difference in going with certain sidings such as stone and wood. Wood is notoriously high maintenance, making it’s wonderful appearance a labor of love. Stone siding is extremely expensive, ranging from $10 to $18 per square foot, and can be easily damaged by pressure washers. Next consider your area: What is the climate? How often is there rainfall? Here in Green Bay, we have a good amount of rain and cold temperatures. This eliminates sidings such as stucco from the pool of options, as it does not tolerate moisture as well. However, vinyl siding is very resistant to water damage, is very low maintenance, only requiring a soap and water wash, and can last up to 20 years. It is also cheaper than most options and easily replaceable further down the line.
